Olga (Elaine) White, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 22, 2022, 5:22 p.m., surrounded by her family. "It just so happened, our mother, in all of her stubbornness, ended up getting the last word. (Pulmonary Hypertension might've played a role as well)."
Luther and Olga (Holaves) Mayhan, celebrated her birth on Jan. 4, 1942, in Danville, Ill. She often shared stories about being raised in a small town above a family owned restaurant. Living with her Greek grandparents, she learned at a very young age, how to serve a mean coney dog. "If you had the pleasure of knowing Elaine, she loved being called Mom, Nana and Dearest." Elaine actually found the positive during Covid lock-down. She was able to spend more time with her granddaughters. She taught them the importance of Amazon and gin rummy, during those dark bleak times. Before quarantine, she would spend weeks at a time, in Florida with her daughter Carrie, and loved being a big shot at Bay Colony Beach Club. She always had stories, many of which, were not true, but funny just the same. "People who knew our mom are laughing (not judging) saying, "Yep, that's Elaine"." She had a hilarious, ornery, and witty personality. Elaine was also an animal lover and dog whisper. But above all, she was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. Elaine spent many years in the retail industry which included Hudson's, Bloomingdales, Marshall Fields, and Von Maur. Along with, many happy memories and raising her family in Pine Valley, Elaine was a great friend and loved by many. Elaine is getting the last laugh and leaving behind a lot of knickknacks, (junk) that Carrie and Robin have no idea what to do with. "Typical Mom".
Elaine is survived by two daughters, Carrie (White) Scannell of Naples, Fla., and Robin (White) Foster of Fort Wayne; son-in-Law, Eric Foster of Fort Wayne; and two granddaughters, Alex Foster of Fort Wayne and Gabby Foster of Tampa, Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert V. White of Sept. 2, 2007.
Carrie and Robin will be hosting happy hour for her friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022, at Cork-N-Cleaver, 221 E. Washington Center Road, Fort Wayne. "Please join us to share a story and a cocktail to give our mom a proper send off.".
