Mary K. Ferris

Mary K. Ferris, 93, of Ft. Wayne, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Georgetowne Place Assisted Living. Mary was born July 14, 1926. She was preceded in death by husband Doyne L. Ferris; sons, Steve and David. She is survived by son, Gary (Cassandra) Ferris of Fort Wayne; daughters, Kathy (Joe) Wetmore Canal Winchester, OH and Christina Ferris of Whitmore Lake, MI; Grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) Stiffler and Jessica Wetmore, Scott, Michael (Crystal) Ferris and great grandchildren Carson, Cadence and Gatlin Ferris, Hailey, Joseph, Joshua and Madelynn Wetmore. Mary had a boundless energy and zest for life. She was a member of the Valparaiso (FL) Garden Club for many years, serving as president. She was always making some type of craft, proudly wearing many of her creations Camping was a big part of her life, with Doyne, her husband of 62 years; together they served as directors of two national camping organizations. They explored from Florida to Alaska and Maine to Mexico in their motorhome --making many friends along the way. She continued to travel and explore the world even late in life. Never stopping, she learned to play golf in her 50s and took up painting in her 80s. No reminiscence of Mary’s life, however, would be complete without mentioning the fun times she shared with friends and family over endless bowls of popcorn and games of cards throughout her life. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Friday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Trier Road with calling 1 hour prior to service. Fr. Thomas Shoemaker officiating. Calling also 4:30 to 7 pm Thursday at D.O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Rd. with Rosary at 6:30 pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. The family extends its deepest thanks to the staff at Georgetown Place, who loved and cared for Mary like family and to the incredibly caring angels at Hartland Hospice. We are most grateful.
