Maris E. Black

Maris E. Black, 81, passed away Sunday, November 3, 2019 in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born in Rockford, Illinois to the late Sidney and Ethel (Lower) Wolcott. Maris married Norman H. Black on February 25, 1967 and he preceded her in death on June 22, 2016. She worked for Rockford Christian School as a kindergarten teacher until she moved to Fort Wayne Community Schools in 1967. She worked for Fort Wayne Community Schools for a couple of years until she left and was director of Village Green Nursery School at the Free Methodist Church. She also taught at Fort Wayne Christian School. Maris was an active member of The Journey Free Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing, reading, and spending time with her family. Above all else, she loved hosting and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Surviving are her children, Kurt (Shelley) Black, Heidi Lancaster, and Kyle (Liz) Black; nine grandchildren, Noah, Rachel, Ashtyn, Brightyn, Meredith, Rebecca, Tanner, Daniel, and Nathan; and siblings, Verna Shafer, Dorothy Morgan, and Kay Wolcott. Maris was also preceded in death by her brothers, Howard and Dale. Funeral service 11:00 am Saturday, November 9, 2019 at The Journey Free Methodist Church with calling one hour prior to the service. Visitation also Friday, November 8, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Funeral Home. Burial in Riverview Cemetery.
