Marie was born to Samuel (Bud) and Diane (Gongaware-Barcoski) Darling on May 10, 1954, in Yuba City, California. In 1957 she moved to Michigan where she resided in Lansing, Coldwater, and eventually settled in Battle Creek, MI where she called it “home” throughout her life. She later resided in Fort Wayne Indiana from October to December 2024 with her only daughter.
Marie is survived by her daughter Charlene (Hart) Hogan; 3 grandsons, Dakota (Kelli) Fletcher-Hanson, Trever (Katie) Hogan, and Brandon Hogan, along with 2 great grandchildren Iyahna and Isaiah; she is also survived by 1 brother, Eric (Debra) Darling, and 1 sister, Sandy (Matt) Cain.
Both of her parents Bud and Diane, along with 2 brothers Duane and Jeff, have preceded her in death.
Marie had a great joy for softball, golf, and bowling, but her love and passion were rescuing all animals and volunteering at the local animal shelter. She especially loved her dogs! Those that knew her, knew that she had a huge heart but was also a force to be reckoned with.
Marie was employed as a waitress, worked at Zales Jewelry store, was a dental hygienist assistant, an accountant, and was the office manager where she retired from Motor Shop Electrical on July 20, 2018.
A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday May 10, 2025, in celebration of her birthday and commence with memories of her dash. This will be held in Michigan and further details will be provided and posted on the McComb & Sons/Dignity Memorial webpage at a later date.
Family and friends may share condolences, memories and photos of Marie at www.mccombandsons.com.
In lieu of flowers: Memorial donations can be made in Marie’s name to ASPCA.ORG or to your local animal shelters.
