Kenneth Joseph Spear, 70, of Fort Wayne, IN and formerly of Corry, PA, died Monday, May 29, 2023, after a brief illness at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. He was born October 25, 1952, in Corry, PA, a son of the late Joseph J. and Mildred F. Antal Spear. Ken was raised and educated in Corry and graduated from Corry Area High School in 1970. Following high school, he attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his education by obtaining a MBA from Youngstown State University. Ken worked in product development, research, and held various senior managerial positions in multiple industries, including hardware, lawn & garden, bicycle, truck body, and ambulance over his 45-year career before retiring in 2019.
Upon retirement, Ken got to enjoy his passion even more by playing golf while spending the winter months in the Stuart, FL area. He continued to refine his game with new friends which included getting his second hole-in-one this past January. He was a skilled golfer and member of various country clubs where he and his family lived.
Ken was a proud Notre Dame alum who loved the Fighting Irish. He enjoyed telling stories of his time being a student manager with the ND football team and was a regular each year attending games.
Ken is survived by his children, Kelly Spear of Birmingham, AL, and Kevin Spear of Fort Wayne, IN; as well as by his two brothers, Richard Spear of Warren, PA and Larry Spear and his wife Mary of Downers Grove, IL; along with nieces Elizabeth and Lindsay Spear; and nephew Luke Spear. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dennis Spear.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Friday, June 2, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 4916 Tier Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior; Father Thomas Shoemaker presiding. Private burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, Corry, PA. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of D.O.
