Helen “Eileen” Stein, 90, of Fort Wayne, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday June 6, 2014 at Woodview Assisted Living, Fort Wayne. Born on December 20, 1923, in Avilla, she was a daughter of the late George and Lenore ( Meade) Hess. She was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, where she was a member of the church chancel guild, the senior saints and many bible classes and did weekly nursing home visitations for over 30years; she was an officer and member of the Frohliche Frauen Home Ex Club, a 1942 graduate of Huntertown High School, she was a homemaker and worked for General Electric, Concordia Lutheran High School kitchen and Jordan’s upholstery.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Paul H. Stein; children, Susan (Donald) Esterline, of Columbia City, Rev. James (Catherine) Stein, of Hartland, Wisconsin, Carolyn Shilts, of Fort Wayne, and Paul E. (Kimberly) Stein, of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; siblings, Ruth Heffelfinger, Lois (Wayne) Diehm and George (Doris) Hess; sisters-in-law, Pat Hess, Dorette Hess and Delores Hess. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Genny Carson; brothers, Richard, Merton, Donald Hubert, Howard and Merlyn Hess.
Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday June 10, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Avenue, Fort Wayne with calling from 9:30 am, until time of service at the church. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Memorial donations may be given to Worship for Shut-ins, or Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
