Helen Marie Armstrong, 100 yrs. old, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father on Good Friday, April 3, 2015. Helen was born on November 23, 1914 in Fort Wayne, IN to Herman and Clara Young. She attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Luther High Institute. She married the love of her life, Herman Henry Armstrong in 1938. They enjoyed hosting many memorable reunions, dances and celebrations over the years on their family grounds.
She began raising plants in a small country greenhouse and nurtured her business into Armstrong Flowers, working there until her retirement at the age of 90. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, her “green” thumb, and especially by the many bridal customers she pleased with wedding flowers.
She was a dedicated member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne for over 77 years. She was a past member of the Washington Township Fire Department Auxiliary and was proud to be a charter member of the International Zonta Club where she received Business Women’s awards.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol (Donald) Stedge, Janice Rahden, Sharon Reinking Miller, and Vicki (Luke) NaThalang all of Fort Wayne. She enjoyed playing cards and having her famous poolside picnics with her 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Armstrong, brothers, Chester & Kenneth Young, sister, Nancy Wakeland, and grandson, Michael Reinking.
The viewing will be on Saturday, April 11th from 2pm-8pm at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral home, 6131 St. Joe Rd. The funeral will be held on Sunday, April 12th at 2:00 pm with viewing a half hour prior at Concordia Lutheran Church, 4245 Lake Ave.
Memorials may be made to Concordia Lutheran Church or Concordia Lutheran High School.
