Harvey F. Beckmann

HARVEY F. BECKMANN, 90, went to his heavenly home on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Heritage Park Nursing Home, Fort Wayne. Born Jan. 8, 1923, in Pleasant Dale, Neb., he was a son of the late William and Pauline (Boldebuck) Beckmann. He graduated from Malcolm High School, in Nebraska, and United Electronics Laboratories, in Louisville, Ky. He married Leona Schulz on June 22, 1947. He farmed until 1957 when he moved to Fort Wayne where he worked for ITT. In 1963, with his wife, he opened Lafayette Radio Electronics, which was later renamed Harvey's Electronics Store. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, where in the past he sang in the choir, held positions as a deacon and elder, and was a Stephen Minister. He also was a past member of Toastmasters, the Lutheran Layman League, SCORE, and the Northside Optimist Club. He is survived by his wife, Leona; daughters, Merna (Ronald) Ahlemeyer and Verna (Steven) Schultz, both of Rock Hill, S.C., Iris (Michael) Armitage of Brighton, Mich. and Doreen (Edward) Witte of Valparaiso; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Oral (Loine) Beckmann of Longmont, Colo.; sister, Lula (Edgar) Meyers of Fremont, Neb.; and sister-in-law, Esther Beckmann of Seward, Neb. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Alvin; and sisters, Helen (Walter) Brase and Esther (Leo) Imig. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 3705 S. Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne.
