With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Gregory "Greg" W. Soest, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024 at the age of 73. Greg's life was a testament to love and passion. He shared a beautiful, lifelong love story with his wife, Dolores, whom he affectionately called his "beautiful wife." Their marriage spanned 45 wonderful years, a bond of deep devotion that was admired by all who knew them. Greg loved her endlessly, and together they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and shared experiences.
He was a talented cook, loved jazz and live music, often creating cherished memories with family by the pool or on their beloved trips to Lake Michigan. He relished dining out with those closest to him. Known for his dapper style and warm, charismatic personality, Greg had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together. He was always young at heart, lighting up every room with his presence and infectious positivity. His love for his dogs brought him great happiness over the years.
Greg dedicated most of his career to the railroad, where he was known for his strong work ethic, reliability, and integrity. A history buff at heart, he was an avid watcher of documentaries, constantly seeking to expand his knowledge of the world.
Above all, Greg was deeply cherished by his family, who will forever hold his memory in their hearts. The love and countless memories they shared bring comfort and strength during this difficult time. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Soest, two daughters, Lisa (Scott) Keuneke and Ilea (Kevin) Jordan, who shared a bond with their father that only daughters can truly know—a connection rooted in unconditional love, guidance, and understanding. Their hearts are broken, but they will forever cherish the memories of his love, wisdom, and the special moments they shared as his beloved daughters. As a grandfather, Greg's joy knew no bounds. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Brittany Keuneke, Brandon Keuneke, Lauren Keuneke, Maeve Jordan and Leo Jordan, who will forever treasure the time they spent with him. Whether it was laughing by the pool or snuggled up on the couch, their lives were richer because of his presence and unwavering love.
We invite friends and family to join us in a Celebration of Greg’s life, as we honor the legacy of a man who brought light and love to everyone he met.
