George D. Stein, 87, of Fort Wayne passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017. He was born on May 9, 1929, in Remington, Indiana, a son of the late George and Gertrude (Kelly) Stein. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He worked at ITT as manager of Quality Assurance in the Aerospace Division before retiring in 1991. He was an active member of American Legion Post 296. Since 1956, he had been an active member at St. Therese Catholic Church being one of the first to become a lector (Proclaimer) and also one of the first to serve as a Eucharistic Minister. He enjoyed spending his free time golfing with his ITT buddies, their wives, and other friends and family. He will be remembered as an avid golfer and fisherman. He will also be remembered as a man that enjoyed being outdoors, being around friends and family. Surviving family include his wife of 64 years, Roberta; daughters, Deborah (George) Joseph of Peoria, IL, Denise (Joe) Monroe of Atlanta, GA, Diana (Kevin) Ephlin of Fishers, IN; nine grandchildren, Aaron (Cherie), Asher, Anna, Andrew (Megan), Jack, Abby, Nick (Andrea), Jackie, Josh; four great grandchildren, Avi, Abby, Coy, Sophi; sister, Janice (Leonard) Mak; brother, Robert (Marlene) Stein; and daughter-in-law, Tami Stein. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his two sons, David and Don Stein; and sister, Kathleen Allen. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am on Monday, January 23, 2017, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Rd., Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 4-8 pm Sunday, January 22, 2017, at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Masses, St. Therese Catholic Church, or Visiting Nurse.
