Born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania on December 11, 1934, to George and Edna (Trehar) Salay, he enlisted in the United States Army right out of high school, serving in Germany during the Korean War.
He went on to pursue an engineering degree studying both at Indiana Tech and IPFW. While working at Parkview Hospital he met his wife, Mary. Bob worked for General Telephone & Electrics for over 40 years until his retirement. After retirement he dedicated his time to caring for Mary through several health issues and illnesses until her passing.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Salay; his parents; and three great-grandchildren.
He is dearly missed by his children, Deb Salay and Jeff (DeeDee) Salay, both of Fort Wayne; siblings, Ellen Barlett of Mexico, Barry (Shellie) Salay of Texas and Terry (Alice) Salay of Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at D.O. McComb Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park located at 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46815 with a service to follow.
Bob will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Highland Park Cemetery after the service.
