George L. Hess

George L. Hess, 84, of Huntertown, IN was welcomed home by his Savior on Monday, January 14, 2019. Mr. Hess was born on August 15, 1934 in Avilla, IN to George M. and Lenor S. (Mead) Hess. He graduated from Huntertown High School. George served his country honorably with the United States Army. On June 16, 1962, he married Doris Norden in Avilla, IN. George worked as a district manager for the Allen County Highway Department for 35 years before retiring in 1997. George was a member and served on several boards at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. He loved sports and was an avid fan of Carroll High School basketball, Purdue basketball, and the Cleveland Indians. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris A. Hess, children; Kenneth E. (Natalie) Hess, Gary A. Hess, Darren P. (Stephanie) Hess, and Deborah L. (Carter) Jones, 10 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 3 step-great-grandchildren, sisters, Ruth Heffelfinger, and Lois Diehm. George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Richard, Merton, Hubert, Howard, and Merlyn Hess, and sisters, Geneveive Carson and Eileen Stein. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2019 from 2-5 and 7-9 at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park, 1320 East Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 18, 2019 at 10am with visitation one hour prior from 9am-10am at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 11228 Coldwater Road Fort Wayne, IN 46845.
