George Edward Hartman, age 92, of Grayslake, Illinois and formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2022 in Gurnee, Illinois. He was born on March 11, 1930 in Fort Wayne, to the late George A. and Mary (née Ditlinger) Hartman. George was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of '48 and soon after answered the call to serve our nation. He proudly served as a U.S. Army MPC stationed in Tokyo, Japan during the Korean War. Following service, he returned to work for Zollner Corporation and retired in 1992 after 42 years of service. In 1960, he married his loving and devoted wife of 47 years, Eleanor (née Harber) Hartman who preceded him in death.
Always the "fix-it" man, George could repair anything at home! He was a devout man of faith, active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society with Eleanor, and in his final days, led the assisted living community in the Lord's Prayer; member of American Legion Post #296 and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
George is survived by his loving children, Susan M. (Eric) Jahn of Grayslake, Annette J. Hartman of Santa Barbara, Calif, Stephen G. (Charlotte) Hartman of Port Charlotte, Fla., David P. (Debra) Hartman of Thornton, Colo., and Gary J. Hartman of Fort Wayne; sister, Theresa Overmeyer of Defiance, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was also predeceased by his siblings, Lucille Ryan, Robert Hartman, Rose Goleeke and Agnes Woenker.
Funeral Service is 11 am on Tuesday, December 13, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 4500 Fairfield Ave, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Friends and family will also be received from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, December 12, at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services - Mungovan, 2114 S Calhoun St, Fort Wayne with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Interment at St. Aloysius Cemetery, Yoder, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be directed to masses or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 1600 S Calhoun St, Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
