Gary Michael Ferris

Gary Ferris passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 due to complications from a recent surgery. He was surrounded by his beloved wife, Cassandra, and family. He was born June 30, 1946 in Auburn, Indiana to the late Mary and Doyne Ferris. Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force and talked fondly of his days stationed in England during the 1960's. A nearly life-long resident of Fort Wayne, he worked for Slater Steel where he was a Union Steward for many years. Gary coached PAL Football, and was a member of several clubs and organizations, including the Auburn Shifters, Civil War Round Table, and for 25 years the Fort Wayne Street Rod Association. Gary and Cassandra were married for 21 years and had a lively and loving relationship that has been a joy to witness. Although Gary was 77, he was truly a kid at heart. He loved trains and owned a model train shop for years. He also drove the train in the summertime at the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo. Not sure whose smile was the biggest - his or his kids'. His other love was his Big Green Machine, a 1930's Chevy that he restored from a wreck many years ago; he loved taking long drives alongside Cassandra. Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Cassandra; sons, Scott Ferris and Michael (Crystal) Ferris; grandchildren Gatlin, Cadence and Carson (who shared a special love of trains with his grandpa); sisters, Kathy (Joe) Wetmore and Christina Ferris; step-son, Dr. Kevin (Amy) Bower, step-grandchildren, Grace and Rose; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Steve Ferris and David Ferris, who were there to welcome him. Funeral Service is 2:00 pm Sunday, December 3, 2023 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Interment at Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville, Indiana.
