Elmer D. Slentz

Elmer D. Slentz, 87, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Elmer was born on November 26, 1937 in Butler, Indiana, a son of the late Russell and Violet (Leason) Slentz. At 7 years of age, he was sent to the Indiana School of the Blind, from where he graduated. He was a wonderful musician and loved to sing. He played several instruments including; piano, organ, accordion, guitar, harmonica, and violin. He loved to play for his family, church, and anyone who would listen or sing along. He married Donna Tessitore, who passed away on March 18, 2021. He retired from Fort Wayne Orthopedics as a transcriptor. While growing up, he milked cows and helped with the animals on the family farm. There isn't anything he wouldn't try to do. He rode a bicycle back and forth from the barn to the house and learned to shoot baskets. He was determined to live life on his own and live a normal life. He never let his blindness define him! He is survived by two brothers, Robert Slentz of Butler and Walter Slentz of Royal Center; one sister, Lois Girardot of Butler; and a host of additional family and friends. Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in passing by his two infant siblings, Virginia and Blaine Slentz; and two brothers, Raymond and Herbert Slentz. Funeral service will be at 1:30 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024 at The Cross Church, 5300 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
