EDWIN "ED" R. BAKER, 76, peacefully entered God's kingdom on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. Born Oct. 3, 1945, in Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Charles and Hilda "Nita" Baker. He was co-owner of C&P Machine Service where he worked for over 50 years with a strong work ethic. Ed was a devoted Christian and lifelong member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He honorably served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was a Sergeant in the 2nd Armored Division. He was a member of the Boy Scouts achieving the rank of Star Scout. In his youth, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and racing motorcycles. His love of fishing persisted into adulthood with trips to Canada as well as fishing in Florida. He was fortunate to have close and lifelong friends both at home and in Florida where he frequently vacationed with his wife. Most of all he loved spending time with friends and family, telling stories, and making people laugh. He was a great father, mentor, and confidant. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Koenig) Baker; daughters, April Pedersen (Todd Speight) and Crystal Lytle (Nathan Lay); sons, Ed (Abby) Baker and Cory (Laura) Baker; 11 grandchildren, Morgan Baker, Danielle Pedersen, Kyle Lytle, Justin Pedersen, Calvin Baker, Emily Baker, Matthew Baker, Ethan Baker, Madeline Baker, Nolan Baker, and Jason Baker; one great-grandchild, Raina Lytle; sister, Charlene (Darrell) Randolph; sister-in-law, Charlotte Baker; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Baker; son-in-law, Brian Lytle; and grandson, Evan Lytle. Funeral service is noon Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., Fort Wayne (IN 46805), with calling one hour prior. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 7, 2022, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 Saint Joe Road. He will be laid to rest in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
