He was a graduate of Hoagland High School. Calvin worked at Phelps Dodge (Indiana Rod and Wire) where he retired from in 1987.
He is survived by his two children, Debra Kempf and Calvin H. Smith Jr; a sister, Gloria Close; a brother, Melvin Smith; grandchildren, Jeremy (Faith) and Dawn (Jay) Clark; 5 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Smith of 63 years; his siblings, Walter Smith, Marietta Shive, Thelma Clem, Laverne Myer, Roy Smith, Russell Smith, Malvina Tindall, Ruth Oetting and Ralph L. Smith.
A memorial gathering will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 11181 IN-37, New Haven, IN 46774, on August 31, 2024, from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, with a service following at 2:00 pm.
