BETTY L. BUSKIRK, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Monday, Jan. 29, 2013, at The Cedars Retirement Center. Born Feb. 18, 1924, in Bloomington, she was a daughter of William and Minnie (Goodpas ture) Spaulding. Betty was a 1942 graduate of Bloomington High School. She was a lifelong member of McDoel Baptist Church. After moving to Fort Wayne in 2005, she enjoyed reading the McDoel Newsette and Herald Times to keep up with her beloved Bloomington and Indiana Hoosiers. Betty was employed by RCA during World War II, Sarkes Tarzian Enterprises, and from 1974 to1989 by Indiana University. She was known affectionately as "Mom" by thousands of students, including basketball and football players who dined at McNutt and experienced her love, concern and encouragement. Survivors include her son, Ronald L. (Linda) Buskirk of Fort Wayne; daughter, Jayma Eagans of Bloomington; grandchildren, Ronald L. (Renee) Buskirk II of Fort Wayne, Brian Baker and Lois Baker, both of Bloomington and Barbara Koch of Gahanna, Ohio; grand-daughter-in-law, Cindy Baker of Bloomington; one great-granddaughter, Dominica Vasquez of Gahanna, Ohio; three great-grandsons, Ronald L. Buskirk III of Fort Wayne, Bill (Jamie) Baker and Eli Baker, both of Bloomington; and great-great-grandson, Brandon of Bloomington. She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; and grandson, Jay Baker. Service is 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at McDoel Baptist Church, 1008 S. Rogers St., Bloomington, with visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. Interment will be at a later date in Crown Hill Cemetery, Salem, Ind. Memorials may be given to McDoel Baptist Church or Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home. Arrangements by Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home.
