Barbara Jean (Schweizer) Law of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on March 16, 1947 in Fort Wayne, to the late Paul and Byrnece (Gross) Schweizer.
Barbara graduated from Bethlehem Lutheran Grade School and Concordia Lutheran High School (Class of 1965) where she was active in music department choruses. She sang in Bethlehem Church choirs and after high school, studied voice at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. After returning to Fort Wayne, she worked as a paralegal for 42 years at the law firms of Frank Gray; Shambaugh, Kast, Beck and Williams (office manager); and Lebamoff and Sons from where she retired in 2010. Barbara is survived by a sister, Marilyn (David) Scherer of Manitowoc, WI.; stepsisters, Carol (Emmett) Smelser of Richmond, Ind. and Linda (Bill) May of Tuczan, AR; many cousins, friends, and special friends; and caretakers, Sue Hiatt, Diane Karst, Jeb Bartley, Jennifer Lawburgh, and Mary Shepherd, all of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Grace (Gronemeier) Schweizer; brother, David Schweizer; paternal grandparents, Charles and Louise (Reiter) Schweizer; maternal grandparents, John and Etta (Webster) Gross; brother-in-law, John Scherer; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home (6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne) on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at 11:00am with visitation from 10am to 11am, one hour prior to the service. A private internment will take place after the service at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
