William C. McLachlan, Jr., age 82 of Fort Smith, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012 in a Fort Smith Hospital. He was born September 30, 1929 in Fort Smith to William C. and Gladys Settle McLachlan. He graduated from Fort Smith High School and attended the University of Arkansas. He was an Eagle Scout. Bill was a lifetime member of Central Presbyterian Church, as well as a lifetime member of the Central Presbyterian Chancel Choir. He also served as an Elder and Trustee for Central Presbyterian Church. His deep love for music guided him in many directions during his lifetime, always filling every venue with his beautiful voice. In addition to his love for the choir, he was a staple in the annual Red Stocking Revue. Bill was one of the first members of the Fort Smith Chorale until his health no longer allowed him to participate. He was in the savings and loan business for over 40 years. He later in life sold real estate and worked for Fentress Mortuary. He had a great love for music, his family, fishing, and all Razorback sports.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Boozman McLachlan of the home, daughter Debra Gordon and her husband Bill of Fort Smith; daughter Lisa Amspacher and her husband Bill of Pensacola, FL; and daughter Linda Peerson and her husband Kenny of Fort Smith; grandchildren Chris Gordon and his wife Christina, Clay Gordon and his wife Kelli, Joey and Ross Amspacher, Adrienne Wilson Chance and her husband Rick, Russ Wilson and his wife Mary, Sarah Peerson, Josh Peerson and his wife Alicia; great-grandchildren Hannah and Elizabeth Gordon, Cody Wilson, Trey and Jackson Chance, and Lilah Peerson. He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. and Gladys McLachlan, his son-in-law Mike Wilson, and great granddaughter Madeline Hickey.
Graveside services will be private. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Central Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
Pallbearers will be Carl McCauley, Bill Hawthorne, Gene Hardgrave, David Beckman, Ross Amspacher, and David Whitt. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Chancel Choir at Central Presbyterian Church.
The family will greet friends at Fentress Mortuary on Friday, June 15th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
