W. Joe “Papa Joe” Motsenbocker of Arkoma was escorted by angels to his heavenly home on Friday, September 9, 2011. For two years he fought a courageous cancer battle. Born on August 25, 1943 to Olin and Eva Mae Cannon in Paragould, he was 68. He was preceded in death by one son, W. Joe Jr.; his parents and eight brothers and sisters.
He was a retired truck/bus driver, receiving awards for 100,000 accident free miles. After retiring, Joe sold eggs, watermelons and produce and loved to fish for his hobbies. He was an Air Force veteran and a member of Arkoma Assembly of God where he drove the church bus for many years and will be remembered as the Candy Man.
Funeral will be Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Arkoma Assembly of God with Reverend Roger Myers officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gwen; three daughters, Samantha (James) Johnson of Pocola, Lois (Frank) Cameron of Fort Smith and Tina Dameron of San Mateo, CA; one son, Dewayne Motsenbocker of Modesto, CA; 13 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and loads of friends. Joe loved everybody and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Ryan and Wes Cameron, Devon and Dylan Johnson, Trey and Jonathon Motsenbocker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Willie Cannon, Jr., R.B., Kevin and John Leatherwood, Lee Walkner, Lee Martin, Steve Olsen, Sam Parks, Bryan Howington and Keith Martin.
Family will visit with friends from 5:30 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
