Stephen Hughes Peters, 83 of Fort Smith, passed away on February 28, 2024. He was born on June 17, 1940 in Fort Smith to the late Arthur and Ratie Ward Peters. Stephen was a retired locomotive engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. In addition to his parents, Stephen is preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Peters and a sister, Jean Theresa Pilch.
He is survived by his wife Sandra, of the home; a daughter, Claudia Peters of Spiro, OK; a son, Stephen H. Peters, Jr. of Fort Smith, along with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be held 1:00 pm Friday, March 22, 2024 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
