Robert L. Winters passed away June 13, at home and at peace. He was born November 22, 1940, to Quin and Mabel Winters. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark and is survived by his wife, Ann Scott Winters; son, Matthew Winters; grandson, Joey and a slew of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
His life was expansive – he left few corners unexplored. Many will remember him as the owner of Winters Cycle and also as a nationally known motorcycle racer. A truly renaissance man, he was a photographer, videographer, stunt man, lady’s man, test rider for Goodyear and Yamaha and motorcycle restorer. He embodied Pirsig’s insight in Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, “The real cycle you’re working on is a cycle called yourself.” He told a friend who visited him in May that he had “lived a full life, won Daytona, jumped out of an airplane, shot a lot of great video, loved his family and friends.” All who knew him knew what a truly unique person he was, full of charisma, charm, and feistiness – as his favorite niece says, “It’s a Winters’ thing.”
The family would like to thank Peachtree Hospice for their support. There will be a Celebration of Life service at Roebuck Chapel of First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m., July 1, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends following the service in the church narthex. There will be a Celebration of Robert’s life party from 5 to 9 p.m. that same evening at the River Park Pavilion, 100 N. B Street.
