Lillian Evelyn Slater passed to the lord on May 8, 2023 in Oklahoma City. She was born on November 5, 1923 in Dora, AR. She was the founder of Arkansas State Beauty Supply in Fort Smith, AR, operating it for thirty-two years and was a beauty herself. In addition to being an accomplished businesswoman, she enjoyed cooking, gardening and the company of family and friends. She was a long-time active member of Chi Sigma social sorority and was actively involved in their charitable fundraising efforts. Her chocolate pies were highly sought after in their yearly bake sale, and she eagerly volunteered to work in the funnel cake booth at the fairgrounds each year. While in Fort Smith she was also an active member of The First Christian Church and the women’s circle. She was preceded in death by her parents Nelson and Blanche Moore; her husband Robert E. Slater, Sr.; sisters, Ola Burchett, Delores Cox, Dortha Brasuell, and Mary Smith; brothers, NC Moore, Paul Moore and George Moore. She is survived by children, Connie Slater of Fort Smith and Robert E. Slater, Jr. (Sylvia) of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Valerie Ochs (Matthew) and Ryan Slater (Sormeh); and four great grandchildren, Allyson Ochs, Zachary Ochs, Lillian Slater and Nina Slater. Special thanks to the loving care given in Oklahoma City by the staff of Quail Ridge Senior Living Legacy Unit and the Tradition’s Hospice team especially Ashley and Jeremy.
The family will have a graveside service at the Fort Smith National Cemetery on May 25th at 10:00 AM. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Fort Smith.
