John Franklin (Johnny) Johnson, 85, of Arkoma, Oklahoma walked down a path and faded into the sunset on Thursday, April 10, 2014. For 5 years he fought a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born April 7, 1929 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. He was a retired truck driver in shipping and receiving for Therma-Tru. After retiring, Johnny worked for Tristate Speedway, where he loved to watch his sons, Randy, James, and David race. He was an avid follower of all races, including Nascar. He also loved traveling around the country with his wife. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents, Abel (Matt) and Lizzie (Atkins) Johnson in Fort Smith, Arkansas; his loving wife of 49 years, Beatrice (Bea) Johnson; as well as two brothers and one great grandson. He is survived by one daughter, Debra Dority of Pocola, OK; four sons, Norman Johnson and his wife, Barbara, James Johnson and his wife, Samantha, Randy Johnson, and David Johnson all of Pocola, OK; 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends; a special family friend, who was like a daughter, Glenda Garceau. Johnny loved everyone and will be greatly missed. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, April 14, 2014 at Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel in Fort Smith with Reverend Darvin Toman and Reverend Roger Meyers officiating under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. The family will visit with friends from 2:00pm to 4:00pm Sunday, April 13, 2013 at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th St, Fort Smith, AR 72903. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, John and Travis Dority, Justin Johnson, Devon and Dylan Johnson, and Blake Johnson.
