He was born on December 9, 1936 in El Dorado, KS to the late P.F. Thompson and Maxine Smith Thompson. Gerald was retired from the trucking industry with Kansas Delivery Service. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Grove, OK. He served for 41 years in the Army National Guard, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. In addition to his parents, Gerald is preceded in death by a son, Bret Thompson.
He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Maureen Thompson of the home; two daughters, Tisha Drews and her husband David, of South Coffeyville, OK and Christina Martin and her husband Neal, of Fort Smith, AR; a son, Monte Thompson and his wife Diana, of Wichita, KS; a sister, Janet Burnett of Denver, CO, and a daughter-in-law Yvonne Thompson of Grove, OK; eleven grandchildren, Katrena Shirley, Chelsea Nielsen, Dustin Thompson, Zachary Thompson, Dylan Drews, Natalie Drews, Elijah Martin, Lily Martin, Maylie Martin, Glory Martin and Elizabeth Martin. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Friday, December 27, 2024 at Trinity Baptist Church in Grove, OK.
Interment of ashes will be at Hickory Grove Cemetery in Grove, OK.
