Deborah Lynn (Vaughn) Thornburg joined her Heavenly Father August 1st, 2023 at the age of 71. Debbie was born October 13th, 1951 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late William Edward Vaughn and Doris Gene Brown. She is preceded in death by siblings Marius Vaughn, Billy and Gail Vaughn, Kathy Vaughn, and a niece, Roni Vaughn.
Growing up in Fort Smith, she graduated from Northside High School in 1969 & attended Westark Community College. She loved being with her family & friends. Whether a “Sunday Drive” or celebrating a holiday, there’s nothing she cherished more than time with her family. Being the youngest of 5 and having 4 older brothers, she spent most of her childhood days at the ballpark where she developed a deep love of the game. Before she was born, her daddy would often tell people he was either going to have a whole baseball team or a daughter, whichever came first.
Debbie lived an accomplished life in the eyes of the ones who loved her most. In the business world, she was loved and respected by many & excelled in her career. She was an employee of PC Hardware where she faithfully served 46 years. She was a member of NAWIC (National Association of Women in Constructing) and was one of only a few licensed female AHC. However, her most beloved job came when she gained the title of “GoGo”. Her three plus grandchildren were the light of her world. She didn’t let a night go by without telling them how much she loved them and, “Don’t let the bed bugs bite. If they do, hit ‘em in the head with a shoe.”
Debbie was a member of First Baptist Church Fort Smith. Previously, she was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was actively involved on several boards and committees. During the years she spent at Central, many lifelong friendships developed that were blessed while doing the work of God and His church. Central was always “home” to her.
She wanted nothing more than to leave a legacy that encouraged us to lean on each other for strength when we are weak, be present for the people we love, and give our best in everything we do, then give Him the glory.
She is survived by her daughter Brandy and son-in-law Justin Jones of Hackett, AR. Three grandchildren, Adymae, Millie, and Louie. Two brothers, Gary Vaughn of Fort Smith and Larry Vaughn of Jenny Lind and one sister-in-law, Sharon Vaughn of Fort Smith. Two special nephews and their spouses, Michael Gragg (Jennifer) of Arkoma and Michael Vaughn (Tammy) of Little Rock, AR, one special niece, Tori Bray (Gary) of Eatonton, Georgia, and several great nieces & nephews whom she spoiled every time she had the chance. She also leaves behind three lifelong friends, Diane, Peggy and Susan.
Family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and pay tribute to this extraordinary woman, Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, 201 North 12th Street, Fort Smith, AR. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 7, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
