The spirit of Dayne Davis was peacefully called to our heavenly Father Monday, May 8, 2023. Born in Orangeburg South Carolina May 23, 1951, Dayne grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas and graduated from Southside High School. Soon after, he moved to Atkins, Arkansas to start a family where he lovingly raised three sons. Eventually, he married Sandy Davis and welcomed her four daughters into his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wroaten Legrande and Mildred Davis, his identical twin brother Wayne Davis, and grandson Eli McKinney.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years: Sandy Davis; three sons: Shannon (Bridget) Davis, Heath (Becca) Davis, Matthew (Jillian) Davis; his step daughters: Christy (Chris) Lamberson, Holly (Mike) Maynard, Kayla Cash, and Adrea (Joey) McKinney; Sisters: Terry Wall and Susan Peters; grandchildren: Gabbi, Brody, Anglin, Emery, Erika, Brittany, Cora, Noah, Carson, Kaylee, Kaci, Alex, Hattie, Kelcey, Laney, Jaden, Wynston, Moriah, and Bailey; great grandchildren: Layla and Mila; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank Westwood Health and Rehab for the love and care they provided to Dayne the last several months of his life.
Dayne was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. His grandkids knew him as “Papa D,” and his love for them was unmeasured. He was a man of faith, love, family, and strength. He had many qualities that make him unique and memorable. He valued God and family above all else. He was imperfect, but his imperfections only made him more endearing.
Prior to his motorcycle accident 10 years ago, Dayne lived life to the fullest.
Dayne was strong, both physically and spiritually. He rarely missed church, prayer, or going to the gym. Being the fitness enthusiast that he was, Dayne never met a mirror he didn’t like. Often donning apparel with slogans such as “Tough Guys Wear Pink,” we suspect he spent as much time admiring his reflection as he did pumping iron.
Jack of all trades, master of none, Dayne thought he could fix anything. Duck tape, broken pencils, and gum were common tools of his trade. He often commented, “That’s good enough,” on his mostly completed tasks. It seemed he could always get a stalled vehicle going, if only for enough time to get home and work on it again. If you were broken down on the side of the road, he would be there no matter what.
Dayne was always up for an adventure. When he was younger, he loved to camp and water ski. Riding his motorcycle was a testament to his adventurous spirit. Although he loved the outdoors, Dayne's hunting and fishing skills left something to be desired. Dayne was certainly not quiet enough to hunt or fish. He may not have particularly enjoyed these activities, but he went anyways to spend time with his kids.
Fancying himself a racecar driver, Dayne had a notorious lead foot. Even prior to his motorcycle accident, his driving skills often lacked proficiency. His “white-knuckled” passengers often became much closer to God after riding with him.
Employed as a Forming Supervisor and Sales Estimator, Dayne provided for his family by working 38 years at Hackney-Ladish in Russellville. He was a hard worker and extremely reliable. If you needed it, Dayne would give you the shirt off his back when you were in a pinch. Besides, he could show off his muscular physique if he wasn’t wearing a shirt.
Dayne loved Jesus. In his earlier days, he sang with the “New Creations” spreading the word of God from Happy Valley to Strawberry, and anywhere in between…to anyone who would listen.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to a charity that promotes fitness or faith in his memory. Rest assured that Dayne is now in a place where he can water ski and ride motorcycles to his heart’s content without traffic or other drivers to worry about. There is no doubt that St. Peter has already issued a speeding citation as he zoomed through those pearly gates.
Friends and family are invited to Dayne’s memorial service at 3pm Friday, May 12, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
