She was born on September 10th, 1960 in Benton, Arkansas to Harvey Gene Smith and Belva June Schmidt, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law Ellis Throgmorton, mother-in-law Frances Throgmorton, and her maternal grandmother, Mattie Bess.
Dana is survived by her husband of over 41 years, Ricky Throgmorton, and their children, Casey Webb, Tad and Jennifer Throgmorton, and Kelsey and Brian Niles, along with twelve grandchildren; her sisters Melody Smith, Julie Blair, Sherri Scott, Teresa Price, and her brother Todd Smith; her maternal aunt, Peggy Chism, as well as many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dana spent over 63 years of her life revolved around her family. Her love for them knew no bounds and her support and encouragement will be especially missed by each of them. She was a woman of great faith, staying true and whole to that, never losing sight of God and His plan for her life. She inspired countless people with her story of courage and faith in the face of impossible circumstances.
She found joy in the small things, like finding a great bargain at a garage sale and hugging her grandchildren. Her role as a Nana was a huge joy in her life. Dana had a particularly special relationship with her 11-year-old grandson, Maverick, and the two of them spent many nights cuddled together on a sofa, or chatting about the events of their day. All of her ‘grand babies,’ as she called them, were the absolute joy in her life.
Dana and Ricky’s love for each other was an inspiration, truly “one in a million,” and a picture of a perfect love story. He served as her rock, never leaving her side through thick or thin. They spent many decades building a family along with countless memories together.
Dana’s absence in the lives of those who loved her will be profound and forever. Her hearty, all-consuming laugh is a great loss to us all, along with her undying encouragement and words of praise for any and every accomplishment of her loved ones.
Dana will be laid to rest on 2:00 PM Monday, October 2nd, 2023 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, AR. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-4pm, with interment at Steep Hill Cemetery in Fort Smith, AR following directly after the funeral services.
