A woman of strength and courage who possessed a generous heart full of love for all who knew her.
It is with heartfelt sadness to announce the passing of Lyla S. Mozil on June 26, 2024, after her short-lived illness with Cancer.
Lyla born and raised in Mountain Park, Alberta on December 15, 1949, lived a full and amazing life as a wife, mother, and grandmother. As a single mother of two, she started her career in accounting at NCPC where she met her partner of 47 years, John Edward Burrell. In 1979, she and Jack decided to move in together and we as a family started our new life in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta where she started her employment of 35 years at Dow Chemical finishing her career as a Cost-Accountant.
During her retirement year’s she devoted her time to the acreage spending time gardening and enjoying acreage life in the serenity and peacefulness that surrounded her.
Over the year’s she and Jack spent time camping, vacationing with friends and family to new places, and visiting her family in British Columbia that were always an integral part of her life.
She lived for new adventures and journey’s wherever they took her, and she had a profound love for all of her pets over the year’s that were all so near and dear to her heart.
In later years, she developed dementia after her battle with breast cancer and although she lost her verbal language, her love for those around her was expressed through affection and her warm smiles, and it was through her eye’s that shined so bright with love that will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, John Edward Burrell; daughter, Rhonda Lynn Thompson; grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Thompson; her brother that she adored so deeply, Don Bello; sister in-laws, Helen Bello, Hazel Burrell, Janet Burrell and Linda Burrell; and so many more family and friends.
She is predeceased by her beloved son, Chad David Mozil; twin sister, Leah Maddison, who in life was her not only a sister but her truest friend; brother, Brian Bello; and her parents Melio and Gladys Bello.
To honour and celebrate Lyla’s Life, a Celebration of Life and Graveside service will be held on Thursday July 18, 2024 at First Memorial Funeral Services-Riverview Chapel, 11090 – 86 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan Alberta beginning at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made either to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, or to the Palliative Care Unit at the Grey Nun’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.
The Family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who cared for Lyla and provided so much compassion and care in our deepest time of need, we can never thank you enough!
