Arie Glasbergen, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at the age of 83 years. Surrounded by the compassionate staff at Rivercrest Care Center in Fort Saskatchewan, Arie left this world with the same quiet grace and love that defined his life.
Born in the Netherlands on June 19, 1941, Arie moved to Edmonton as a young man, travelled to Calgary to attend SAIT and gain his automotive mechanics trade. From there, Arie and Beryl moved to Fort Saskatchewan where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He found great peace going to the lake, where he spent many cherished hours, and his talent for mechanics, whether working on old tractors or repairing anything in need of a fixing, Arie was known for his meticulous attention to detail. He was always ready to share his knowledge and lend a hand to others.
Arie’s love for telling stories was a gift he shared with everyone around him. His humor, wisdom, and life experiences wove into every tale, leaving those who listened feeling both enlightened and entertained. His stories, full of heart, will live on in the memories of those who loved him.
Above all, Arie was a devoted family man. He shared a long, loving marriage with his beloved wife, Beryl, whose companionship and support were the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised three children; Hali, Jason, and Dana, whose lives he shaped with his unwavering love and guidance. Arie also welcomed his children’s spouses into the family with open arms; Jason’s wife, Sandy, Hali’s husband, Mitch, and Dana’s husband, Kelly, each of whom will remember him as a father figure and mentor.
Arie’s greatest joy came from his role as a grandfather to Justin, Kristen, Jacob, Riley, Dylan, Levi, Metro, and Madison; great-grandfather to Charlie, Leo, Clay, and Oaklynn. Each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he delighted in spending time with them, sharing stories, fishing, games, wisdom, and the love he so freely gave. They were his pride and joy, and his legacy will live on through them.
Arie also leaves behind his sister, Margriet, as well as in laws and many nieces and nephews, completing a large extended family.
Arie is preceded in death by his parents, Nicolaas and Leuntje; his beloved sister, Jane; brother in-laws, Fred and Jon, whom he always remembered with fondness and love.
In his final days, the compassionate care from the staff at Rivercrest Care Center provided Arie with peace and comfort, and for this his family will be forever grateful.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 23, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Pioneer House in Fort Saskatchewan, AB.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and/or the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation in Arie’s memory.
