February 17, 1920 - January 17, 2012
On January 17, 2012 Rose Bryant passed away peacefully at Echo Lodge Nursing Home, Fort Qu’Appelle, SK, one month short of her 92nd birthday. She was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Bryant in 1998, parents Rudolf (Babe) and Ellen (Nell) Frey, sister Hazel Metz and grandson Patrick Veresh in infancy. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Sandra Down (Jim), Beverley Veresh (Andy); four grandchildren, Tim Veresh (Karen Sloat), Russ Down (Nadine McMeekin-Down), Ray Down (Colleen), Heather Monus (Jason); six great grandchildren, Aaron and Brett Down, Niamh and Devin Down, Owen and Ian Monus. Mom will be fondly remembered by her sisters-in-law; Marion Bryant and Alice Isfan; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Rose was born in the Leross District and attended Millersdale School. On December 14, 1943 Rose and Gilbert were married. During the war years they lived near air bases on Vancouver Island and Kamloops. Following the war they returned to farm in Saskatchewan. Their first crop was in 1946. Rose was a partner with Gilbert on the farm and also in the nine years they worked for the Village of Lestock. After moving to Fort Qu’Appelle, she worked part time for five years. She loved to sing and as a young woman had taught herself to play the organ. Rose had a large collection of music and loved to dance and in later years to line dance. She enjoyed people and attended St. Andrew’s United Church singing in the choir for many years. A wonderful hostess, she always welcomed friends and family for coffee or a tasty meal with her special nine-day pickles, fruit preserves and a ready supply of cakes and pies. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing puzzles, playing cards, and watching baseball and hockey. Rose loved watching the birds, gardening, sewing and doing embroidery and needlepoint, but above all else was her love of family. Rose and Gilbert enjoyed many trips including Hawaii, Oklahoma, Arizona, Mexico and to the West Coast, but for Rose there was no place like home. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Lombard and the staff at Echo Lodge for their excellent care and compassion provided to Mom. Also a special thank you to family and friends who visited Mom during the time of her struggle with Alzheimers. In lieu of flowers if so desired contributions can be made to The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan 301 2550 12th Avenue, Regina SK, S4P 3X1, or Echo Lodge, 1790 Fort Qu’Appelle, SK S0G 1S0, or a charity of your choice. The funeral service will be held in St. Andrew's United Church, Fort Qu'Appelle, SK, on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sharron Bodnaryk officiating. Interment of cremated remains in the Lakeview Cemetery, Fort Qu'Appelle. Arrangements in care of Tubman Cremation and Funeral Services.
