Francine was born at home on August 9, 1931, in Downing District at Fillmore, Saskatchewan. She attended Downing School and Fillmore High School. Francine started a job at Pioneer Store in the Hudson Bay Building at Fort Qu’Appelle, Saskatchewan in 1952. It was there that she met her husband, James Ormiston. The couple married on June 12, 1953 at Grace United Church in Fillmore. Francine and Jim lived on the Robertson farm in Springbrook District after they married. They then bought the Gilbank farm in Hughesvale District which became their home for thirty-one years.
The family attended Edgeley United Church, and Francine belonged to the Hughesvale Sewing Circle. A dedicated wife and mother, Francine always grew beautiful flowers, huge gardens and ensured no one ever went hungry. She was known for baking each grandchild’s favorite cake or cookies.
Francine and Jim sold the family farm in 1985 and moved to Fort Qu’Appelle. Francine became involved in the Horticulture Society, Nature Saskatchewan, Kairos, United Church Women, St Andrew’s United Church board and the United Church Presbytery.
Predeceased by her husband Jim in 1995, Francine continued to live in their Fort Qu’Appelle home and care for her yard for many years, until she moved into a condo, followed by assisted living care homes and long-term care in 2020.
Francine was predeceased by her beloved husband Jim, her parents Howard and Gretta (Good) Elder, her in-laws, Bert and Minnie Ormiston, her brother Ernest, her twin brother Harry-Jae, and many members of the Elder, Good and Ormiston families.
