Neil Valentine Huber, born April 29, 1931 in Jamaica, NY passed away on Monday, April 5th, 2021 at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.
His childhood summers were spent in Rockaway, NY at the family bungalow, Gem Cottage, fishing, boating, surfing, swimming and woodworking and eventually at Mardi Gras, Memorial Day, and Labor Day celebrations with The Ramblers Social Club. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Bridgeport in Connecticut in 1953 and completed graduate work at New York University in Manhattan. He was a member of the Delta Epsilon Beta Fraternity. Neil was drafted into the US Army in 1953, advancing to Specialist Third Class during his two years of service in the Korean War. Upon his return home, Neil became a successful salesman, selling textiles and hardware throughout the Northeast.
Neil and his wife, Maureen, married in 1959, and bought their first home in East Northport, NY. They subsequently lived in Framingham, MA, Madison, CT, Duxbury, MA, and Plantation, FL, before finally settling in Fort Pierce in 2001. He was an active member of the United States Power Squadron (most recently with the Vero Beach chapter) for 50 years, spending many years on the water on the family boat, the Nemoe. He owned a classic 1973 Mercedes Benz and enjoyed many car parades with the Vero Beach Antique Automobile Club. Neil was an expert model-boat builder, a master woodworking craftsman, an effortless bass barbershopper in the SPEBSQSA, and an honorary Irishman with an extensive and well-played Irish CD collection.
Neil was a gregarious, upbeat jokester until the very end, always striving to provoke a smile from anyone he came in contact with. He was a dedicated husband and father, always supporting his family in their endeavors.
He was, and forever will be, the Huber Family Raconteur.
Neil is pre-deceased by his cherished wife Maureen and his loving parents (Anton and Grace Huber). Neil is survived by his loyal brother Paul; his devoted daughter, Joy; his three beloved sons Glenn, Craig, and Keith; his thoughtful grandson Tyler, and great grandson Jonathan.
Neil’s memorial will be held at Aycock Funeral Home, 6026 US-1, Fort Pierce, FL 34946 on Saturday May 1st from 2-6PM (religious service at 4PM).
Interment service to occur on Monday, May 3rd, 2021 at South Florida National Veterans Cemetery in Lake Worth, FL at 1:30 PM.
