Sue Morten Rogers of Fort Myers, FL, passed away on April 15, 2023 after a gradual decline following a stroke suffered in 2018. She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio where she graduated from Withrow High School at the top of her class of 800 students and was voted Most Likely to Succeed. In 1957 she graduated Cum Laude from Miami University majoring in education and mathematics. At Miami she was President of Chi Omega sorority, other school leadership groups, and later served as President of the Miami Alumni Association.
Jack and Sue married on July 12, 1958 when Sue was a second-grade teacher and Jack began a lifetime career with United Parcel Service. They had 4 children in 6 years and moved around the country due to work transfers from Cincinnati to Chicago, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Omaha, Summit, NJ, Greenwich, CT and back to Summit. Jack Retired in 1990 and they split their time between Summit, NJ and Fort Myers, FL.
While raising her children Sue was devoted to supporting them and became a model volunteer. She was a room mother, Girl Scout leader, CCD teacher, and pitched in wherever help was needed. Her children’s friends were always welcome and she became a second mother to many of them. In Summit she cherished lifelong friendships from the community and from Canoe Brook Country Club where she and Jack were members for 44 years.
In Fort Myers, Sue became very involved in the Fiddlesticks Country Club community where they lived for 26 years. She was an early volunteer in the Bobby Nichols Fiddlesticks Charity Foundation and also the ladies bridge club director. She was also the Lee County Chi Omega Alumnae Club president for 15 years. Their home at Fiddlesticks became a yearly vacation destination for their children and grandchildren (often there all at once) where they created much chaos and many cherished memories.
Sue was an avid bridge player and became a Life Master while in her 70’s competing in numerous tournaments around the country to achieve this milestone. With a passion for theater (she worked in theater production while at Miami) Sue attended hundreds of Broadway shows and supported local theaters, as well. She organized a group at Fiddlesticks that attended numerous plays at the Florida Repertory Theater each season.
She was a woman of great faith, showing a shining example of Christian dedication and service. She was engaged and generously contributed her time and means to her Catholic church. She was both loved and respected by all who knew her. She was a smart, compassionate, and fun-loving woman who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband Jack, her sons David Rogers (wife Heather), Peter Rogers (wife Judith), her daughter Jane Rogers Grewcock (husband David), 12 grandchildren- Lindsay, Melissa, Stephanie, Jonathan, Jessica, Maggie, Sarah, Sam, Conor, Carrick, Carly and Kellen, and 8 great-grandchildren Madelynn, Olivia, Steven, Jensen, Avery, Rowan, Jade and Ayden. She was preceded in death by her daughter Carol Rogers Driscoll and her sister Ann Waldvogel. She has earned a peaceful heavenly rest and now heaven has one more bright angel.
