This is horrible that we just learned of Steven's passing.  He was a fabulous person - a true renaissance man.  I worked with him on matters related to Alliance Francaise and in the Legislature with Sen. Henry.  Sen. Henry adored Steve and they are probably together now speaking French all day. It is with fond memories that I look back on my experiences in Paris and Caen, Normandy, France 🇫🇷 where Steve was our fearless leader. His years of kinship with the Sister City and bar association in Caen were extraordinary and made for such great friends. He even went to great lengths to make sure that I could represent Nashville in Normandy at the World Equestrian Games when Mayor Karl Dean couldn’t attend. I’m eternally grateful for his kindness and he will be sorely missed by many lawyers, friends and fellow Democrats.

Steve was a progressive Democrat and a fiercely intelligent leader who was often ahead of his times. In spite of his vision and his intellect, Steve managed to accomplish a lot during his years in the General Assembly. It was Nashville and, I dare say, the nation's loss that his one campaign for U.S. Congress did not succeed. I managed Steve's second and successful campaign for the state House where I learned a lot about retail politics, not to mention yard sign locations, on which Steve was totally focused. My condolences to Nancy  whose brilliance and human touch added much to that campaign. I don't know much about Steve's recent past since he and Nancy moved to Florida. If he was keeping up, I am sure he was saddened by recent events in the General Assembly. We need many more like him these days. 

It was a shock to learn of Steve's death. He had been a good friend since 1968! 
Fortunately , Steve and Nancy and I had lunch in Nashville in the last couple of years. 
So many memories especially of Caen, France where he had been a Fulbright Scholar and was known affectionately as Stef Cobb. 


Steve Cobb was an excellent Tennessee legislator and a first-rate attorney.  I worked with him on issues at the Tennessee legislature and was always impressed with how he got things done.  He will be sorely missed.

Steve Cobb was an excellent lawyer, and I am proud to have been his friend and colleague.  I offer my sincere condolences to his family.
