Mary was born August 1, 1925 in Barboursville, West Virginia. She lived in West Virginia until 1960 when she and her family moved to Fort Myers. Mary owned and operated her own restaurant in West Virginia, then worked for many years as a waitress at both Howard Johnsons and Lums restaurants in Fort Myers until she retired.
Mary enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling. She was a caregiver of many of her friends in their time of need. She was a member of McGregor Baptist Church.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Kent and Sarah Harless; four sisters, one brother and both of her husbands, Donald Ralph Midkiff and Howard Speer. She is survived by her son: Cecil (Patricia) Midkiff; a daughter, Alice McElwee; a grandson Jeffery (Stephanie) Midkiff; a granddaughter, Stephanie (David) Midkiff-McLoon; three great grandchildren: Kylee, Austin and Larsen. She is also survived by two sisters: Lucille Lewis of Huntington, W. Va. and Lola Harbour of Lynchburg, Va.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Sunday, January 21, 2018 at Lee Memorial Park Cemetery 12777 State Road 82 Fort Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name would be appreciated to Hope Hospice 9470 HealthPark Circle Fort Myers, FL 33908.
