Lorraine May Roberts

Born on October 7, 1925 to Dorothy Weust and John Henry Ennen of Terre Haute, Indiana. Lorraine graduated from Terre Haute Honey Creek High School. After graduation Lorraine went to work at the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. (A&P) in the store order receiving department. While there she heard of an opening in the Ann Page Food Division for a laboratory food chemist. She passed this information along to her future husband Walter and that is where he began his 29 year career with A&P. She left her position after 10 years to start their family. She would later return to work as a guidance secretary for several years at both Terre Haute South Vigo High School and Horseheads High School in Horseheads, New York.

In 1998 Lorraine and her husband Walter purchased a condo in the community Heritage Palms Golf & Country Club in Fort Myers, Florida. Lorraine loved to play golf and belonged to the Heritage Palms Women’s Golf Association where she sat on many committees, most notably, chairperson for the very first charity event “Run for the Roses”. Lorraine was also an original member of the “Red Hats” lady golfers. She also volunteered as a score keeper at the LPGA Corning Classic in Corning, New York for over 20 years. Lorraine and Walt enjoyed playing many rounds of golf together and making many new friends at Heritage Palms.

Lorraine is survived by her two sons Jeffrey Roberts of Fort Myers, Fl. and Steven Roberts (wife Jackie) and family of Durham, N.C. and sister in law Mrs. Edie Weust of Denver, Colorado, many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by the love of her life of 73 years Walter Roberts, sister Mrs. Evelyn Tosser of Terre Haute, Indiana, and brother Mr. John Weust of Denver, Colorado.

Lorraine will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The family is asking that donations be made in her memory to her favorite charities: St. Jude Children’s Hospital or your local chapter of Make A Wish. A celebration of life for both Lorraine and Walter will be held at a later date to be announced.
