Karen was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Janet Terise Kratochvil and her loving husband Fred Norman Teumac of Fort Myers, FL.
Karen is survived by a son, William Ogden Kratochvil of Fort Myers, FL, a stepson, Frederick Teumac of South Bend, IN and stepdaughters Joanne (Paul) Hunter of Centre, AL and Diane Hopkins of Palm Bay, FL. Also surviving her are two sisters: Toni (Curt) Williams of Oak Creek, WI and Lynne (Joe) Knotek of Missoula, MT; seven grandchildren: Jordan (Lyndsay) Garcia of Palm Bay, FL, Normandy (Chase) McFarlane of North Fort Myers, FL, Alexander Kratochvil and Katherine Kratochvil of Fort Myers, FL, and Karlie (Jacob) Bodayla, Gracie Teumac and Trevor (Olivia) Teumac of South Bend, IL; four great grandchildren: Carson and Makenna McFarlane of North Fort Myers, FL, and Lukas and Wyatt Garcia of Palm Bay, FL.
Karen was a fiercely dedicated mother of two children when she met and fell in love with Fred and the two were inseparable from that point forward. They moved to Charlotte, NC in 1978. In 1979, Karen and Fred married and united their families to include a total of five children.
Karen graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte cum laude in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. Karen then moved to Spartanburg, SC and began her teaching career as a chemistry teacher in a local high school. She moved to Hazelton, PA in 1989 where she worked as a junior research chemist on a project which resulted in several patents. Karen returned to Spartanburg, SC in 1992 where she continued her teaching career. While teaching, Karen received her Master of Education in 1994 from the University of South Carolina with a 4.0 GPA. In 2002, Karen moved to Fort Myers, FL to be involved full time with her family.
Karen’s hobbies were the constant pursuit of knowledge, reading, playing cards, traveling, and being with family. She was a great family historian who loved sharing stories in her own witty way. Karen was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend who was kind, giving, loyal, passionate, and supportive of everyone she loved. She was a source of inspiration and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for Karen will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Hodges Funeral Home at Lee Memorial Park, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A funeral service will occur Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913. A graveside service will occur Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM, 12777 State Road 82, Fort Myers, FL 33913.
