Beverly Jane Hodges Ball, 93, died in her sleep Wednesday, September 22,2021. She was born on December 27, 1927 in Meridian Mississippi to the late Bryant and Nola Mae Hodges. She is predeceased by a sister, Dorthy Mae Hodges Barefield, a daughter, Kathryn Lynn Ball, and a son, Robin Armand Ball.
She is survived by her husband, Armand B. Ball,Jr., daughter, Helen (Peter) Pound of Frederick (CO) granddaughters Nicole (Kenny) Sterrett of Greenwood (IN), Stephanie (Scott) Stephens of Bloomington (IN) Lyndsey Ball of Fort Myers(FL) and Rachel Pound of Ft. Lipton (CO) grandsons, Rhyan Ball of Indianapolis (IN) and Jonathan Pound of Ft. Lipton (CO). five great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, nieces Beverly Barefield and Jan Barefield of Niceville (FL) and nephew, Clarke Barefield, Jr. of Baker (FL).
She graduated from Blue Mountain College (MS) and Southwestern Baptist Seminary (TX).She taught high school in Nashville (TN) and Rosenberg (TX). She was the Baptist Student Union Director at Troy University (AL) and Youth Director at First Baptist Church, Tallahassee (FL). She worked with youth in YMCA summer camps (TN & MN) and Publications Director at the American Camp Association, Martinsville (IN).
She was co-author with her husband of Basic Camp Management a text in colleges and organizational courses for over 30 years. She was a tutor in courses for camp directors in countries around the world and a National Trainer for Girl Scouts of the USA.
The Balls lived on Sanibel Island (FL) for 23 years prior to moving to the Cypress Cove Community. During those years she volunteered with the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) as a Board member, caregiver and lecturer, at the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge as a rover, and at the Sanibel Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) as a lecturer on the Captiva Cruises Dolphin Cruise and for 10 years as the volunteer director of the Sea Turtle Program with 100 volunteers on Sanibel and Captiva Islands.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 6 at 2:30 PM in Edison Hall at Cypress Cove,10200 Cypress Cove Drive, Ft. Myers (FL) Persons at a distance may participate virtually via Facebook or Zoom.
