Barbara “Ruth” Taylor, age 86, a longtime resident of Fort Myers, FL passed away on Saturday, January 22nd, under the care of Hope Hospice with loving family surrounding her. She was born on March 31, 1935 and preceded in death by her parents Paul and Margie Allenbaugh and her brother Laurence “Ronald” Allenbaugh (Anita).
Ruth is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John; son John (Jennifer); daughter Michelle (Wes); daughter Denise (Jeff). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lauren, Danielle, Hailey, Travis, Weston and Isabella. Niece Marlene (Victor); Nephew Laurence; Niece Barbara (Mike), and great nephews.
Ruth was born in Michigan, and moved to Miami in 1942, where she graduated from Miami Edison Senior High in 1953. She worked in Miami at Southern Bell Telephone Company. In 1969, she moved to Fort Myers and worked for United Telephone Company. While shopping for carpet, she met John, the love of her life. They married on May 28, 1970. She has been a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother.
With Ruth’s support, John built a successful flooring business. They eventually started several self-storage businesses, which Ruth helped build and manage. For many years Ruth was a dedicated Lee County Elections Poll Worker and promoted to a Lee County Precinct Supervisor.
John and Ruth had an adventurous life while traveling the globe together. They have visited 177 Countries around the world, all 50 U.S. States, and 275 National Parks. She loved to travel, but always looked forward to coming home and spending valuable time with her family.
