Hopie was the fifth of six children and is predeceased by two older brothers Trevor and Errol. She attended Glenmuir High School in May Pen. Upon graduation she migrated to Brooklyn, New York where she married John Edwards (now deceased). The union produced a son, John William Edwards. Later in life, she met her soul mate Ronald Moss. They spent many happy years together enjoying traveling, Broadway shows, fine dining and all the other pleasures that life had to offer.
Hopie attended Long Island University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She also earned a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University. Additionally, she completed numerous career-related certifications including Medical Surgical Nursing.
Her career at New York Methodist Hospital spanned thirty four (34) years. There she held various positions including staff nurse, Assistant Nursing Care Coordinator, Nursing Care Coordinator and Case Manager after which she retired in 2015.
Hopie touched the lives of many: family, friends and patients alike. She always had a kind word for everyone and her radiant smile charmed all with whom she came in contact.
A woman of God, one of the highlights of her many travels was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, Jordan, and Egypt in October 2019. She was fascinated with the biblical significance as she climbed Mount Sinai on a camel, sailed on the Sea of Galilee and walked the way to the cross “The Via Dolorosa”.
Hopie was a woman of strong faith. Throughout her illness her faith never waned. She endured her pain and suffering with dignity and resolve, believing that her life is in God’s Hands.
Left to cherish her memory are son John Edwards, daughter-in- law Kim, granddaughter Madison Hope, brother Warren, sisters Maureen and Donamarie, sisters-in-law Jeanethe, Phyllis, Joyce and Dell as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and special friends.
Hopie leaves footprints of kindness, love, compassion, humor and inspiration; a trail bright with hope for others to follow.
