Mr. Rafael Fernandez died peacefully at Palmetto General Hospital on November 2, 2020, at the age of 65. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, Rafael managed his chronic heart and kidney illness with strength and grace and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his family, who he adored more than anything else in the world. Rafael is survived by his wife, Norma, and five children, Rafael Jr., Vanessa, Kamila, Paola, and Karla.
Rafael was born on August 5, 1955 in Havana, Cuba to Francisco and Hilda Fernandez. He graduated from Sacred Heart University with a degree in Business Administration. After moving to Miami, Rafael started his own business. He married Norma in 1996. His children remember him as a jokester and driven father who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Rafael was accomplished at cooking and often tried to teach his family. He was a generous individual who loved history, politics, and was passionate about Cuban music. He was an active and dedicated member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.

"God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So He put his arms around you and whispered, 'Come to me.' A golden heart stopped beating hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best."
