Marykutty is survived by her children Diana, Ajay, Toji, Betsy, and Shaam and her grandchildren Roshan, Anjali, Jordan, Chase, and Riley. She is also survived by her siblings Thalathayil Varughese Cherian, Alice Varghese and Saramma Abraham as well as her two sister-in-law‘s Edith Thomas and Sosamma Cherian. Marykutty was the sixth child of seven children.
Marykutty was born on May 3, 1944, in Kumbanad, India to Dr. T.V Cherian and Mariamma Varghese Cherian. As a child, she attended boarding school in Nagercoiland attended BSC Nursing in Indore. She graduated from the School of Nursing in Indore in 1962, with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. She then worked at Bombay SNDT College as a teacher. Afterwards, she moved to Bombay and became a sister tutor to future nurses for two years. In 1967, Marykutty moved to Kuwait to be with her older brother where she worked and taught nursing until 1971 when she married her late husband Mr. George Thomas in India. The couple then moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where they had their daughter Diana. Marykutty worked as a midwife while studying to complete her boards. After completing her boards, the Thomas family in 1974 decided to move to Houston, Texas where they had their two sons Toji and Shaam Thomas. In 1987 they moved with AbrahamVarghese’s family to Florida and they settled in Cooper City.
George and Marykutty Thomas taught their children kindness, patience, and family values. Marykutty encouraged her children to dream big and to always pursue their goals. She made sure they had fun throughout their lives. Marykutty was accomplished in many art fields. She loved to sing at church. She loved to bake, paint, and do all sorts of ceramic. When she was young she loved to act, and play sports. She participated in track and won many medals. She was also an active member of the Mar Thoma Church of South Florida where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of the choir.
Marykutty was a fun loving, witty and social person. She loved to travel and see the world. She loved road trips and visiting exciting new places. She dedicated her life to teaching her family that God and family came first. In addition to working as a nurse, she also loved to educate and teach nursing classes at Broward College. After retirement, she dedicated her life to taking care of her family especially her grandchildren.
Marykutty’s funeral is scheduled for July 23, 2020 at 10:00am at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Davie, Florida.
Reverend Shibi Abraham will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marykutty Thomas’s life.
