I met Lorna through a friend of mine who was her cousin, and would see her periodically when we both happened to be in FL or when Lorna visited Jamaica. Always struck by her calm,  queenly, and warm ways. Even when she was "upset" those qualities would show through. Always good for a laugh and a good time. Enjoyed every encounter with her.  She will be missed! My wishes of strength to her family and friends. I know it will be a struggle to manage this loss but fortunately she left you with enough great memories to last a lifetime.

Once upon a time, some one by the name of Lorna Rhoden has graced this earth, she was special I believe the sun was shining in all, it's glory, the birds were singing melodies high on top of their voices, and the star's were dancing in the sky, just so happy to have such a wonderful and honoured guest's to this universe. There are people in our lives who hold a special place in our hearts that no one else ever could and I mean people like Lorna. My dear friend, you are no longer with us, you are now in heaven teaching the younger ones that passed on before. God has a vacancy in his class room, and he needs someone to fill that opening, and in his eyes he decided that you were the chosen one, so he called you home to finish what you started in this Universe . Rest in peace my dear friend I love you, you are sadly miss.

Lorna “Lorns” was my big sister, teacher, mentor, counselor, bodyguard and friend who exuded an air of confidence, radiance, cheerfulness, optimism, enthusiasm, warmth and unconditional love.
My big sis always had my back. When I’m happy,  she too was happy, if I was hurting she too experience the hurt, however, we would devise some means to overcome the hurt together.
Lorna had a special way of greeting me when I called her or she called me (which would be almost every day)She would say “Hey babygirl” and that made me feel really special. I’ll miss that greeting so much.
Lorns exhibited such fondness and love for her family as well as her friends, colleagues and acquaintances. Whenever we would plan family events she was the head cook and bottle washer, as these events could not go on without her input.
Big sis, your transition on December 18, 2021 has left such a void in my heart but I will always cherish the fond memories we have shared over the years. Sis, rest in eternal peace until we meet again.

The passing of Lorna my adopted mother, friend, and confidant has left me sad, numb, and empty.  She was a guiding light, a rock to lean on, and source of support throughout my life. I followed her everywhere since I was a little girl and our bond grew tighter as we got older.  In some respect we were inseparable and planned everything together.  When I needed advice, she was there for me.  When I was stressed, and need to talk, she would listen to me.  Now,  it’s so difficult to walk into her room and she is not there.  It will take some time for me to accept that she is no longer with us but  I will hang on to and treasure the memories and fun times we had together.

One of our favorite past time was shopping or simply window shopping.  We would walk the malls, window shop, have lunch and return home happy campers.  Other times, it would be bags from every store and not cheap ones 😋.  I will miss our shopping excursions 😞.  

Lorna cared for her family and friends alike and made sure we were comfortable in her presence.    We will  all miss her cooking, laughter,  funny stories, and her telling us the history of Jointwood.

Rest In Peace my second mother; you fought hard but God knows best and now you are at rest in his arms.  Sleep well until we meet again 🕊.

Although we never had the opportunity to meet
Lorna, we have heard her husband Horace speak
of her in glowing ways and often with a grin on
his face then one day, he broke the sad news
relating to her health status.
Since then we have prayed, encouraged and stood
in solidarity with Horace as best as we could
throughout the period of illness leading up to the
passing of Lorna.
Lorna has left a legacy for us all to carry forward
because of the positive way that she lived. She
truly lived to uplift others and her life as a teacher
as well as in other roles will long be remembered
by those whom her life touched during her sojourn
here.
The members of the Board, Staff and Children of
Annie Dawson Home for Children are grateful to
her that she enabled us to benefit from the
expertise of her husband Horace who is still
currently serving in the capacity of our Board
Chairman and is doing a fantastic job of
enhancing the lives of vulnerable children in

Over 40 years ago Lorna and I met on our way to work in Sav-la-mar, Westmoreland , my home town. We became friends then family when she met my cousin Basil Higgins, fell in love and got married then our bond became even closer.
Kwamelle, Maxine, Beverley, Paula, Horace, and the rest of family, Life is a journey and  Lorna  my friend & cousin left foot prints where she went.  Foot prints of kindness & love, courage & compassion, humor & inspiration , joy and faith. Although she is gone we can still look back and clearly see the trail or prints she left behind, a trail bright with hope that invites us to follow.

Ms. Higgins was affectionately known to us as "Pretty". She walked with grace and poise into Rock Island Elementary School every day dressed to impress. She was the prettiest lady to me so the name Pretty stuck. Pretty was the work Mom that provided advice, encouragement and sometimes much needed correction. She always did it in a nice and respectful way but you knew she meant business.  Pretty encouraged me through a difficult time in my career and her encouraging words allowed me to pull myself together and move on.  I will always remember her loving heart, beautiful smile and graceful spirit. Thank you Pretty for being an amazing teacher to Shaun who is now 20. He remembers your hugs and the fun times. You loved and spoiled him good. Rest well My Pretty! Job well done! I know you will have the prettiest robe and wings in Heaven! I love you always!! 

Lorna was a warm and caring person. We met her through Ms Maxine , my mom”s friend and coworker. She actually spent a Thanksgiving with us  in New York and I will always remember how easily she nestled in ; just like family. And every time Ms Maxine went to Florida , we were sure to get her mangoes in the summer and Black cake  at Christmas! Our deepest condolences to the family for I know your loss is great. May she Rest In Peace.

Ms. Higgins-Williams has inspired and influenced my life in many incredible ways. She was a very good listener who always give Godly advice to encourage, motivate, and develop a positive mind set.  She was an excellent educator and I have learned a lot about the art of teaching from her.  I was blessed to have her as a friend and a big  sister and I am deeply saddened by her passing.  The Holy Scripture reminds us that, “In everything give thanks.” I am thanking God that I was blessed to meet Mrs. Higgins-Williams who taught me many important lessons about LIFE.  May her soul Rest In Peace. I will continue to pray for her family and love ones.

Lorna and myself we were very good friends, we went way back from primary school days. I remember the first day I saw Lorna at school. I wanted her to be my friend, and she said to me that the first time she met me she was wishing the same thing that we would becomes friends, and eventually it did happened we became good friends from there on. Back in the days when we were young and going to school. we were school girls from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays we became market women's, it was five of us girlfriends, Lorna, Daphne, Winsome, Eugenie and myself. On Saturdays we would meet at Magotty market and did our shopping for our parents, and after we finished our shopping, we would left our bags with a lady in the market a very nice lady. Then we went and had our ice cream. We did enjoyed those days, we used to looked forward for Saturday's. so we could have our ice cream. When I came to New York to live Lorna was already here and she was the one encouraged me from going back home, because I didn't like it here.She was the only friend I had here at the time. We did everything together, we went parties and shopping ect. We were Skye and trim. Lorna I will always missed you.May you rest in peace. It's very difficult for me to believe that Lorna has left us. She was such a lovely individual and full of laughter.  We worked together back in the 70s teaching at Frome Secondary.  Lorna, you are gone but won't be forgotten.  RIP my friend. 


My dearest aunt Lorna. There are far too many memories to write on, but I believe I can share a few that have helped to shape me into the man I am today. And though we see them as memories of a past, they are no more present than the moment in time they were, experienced. You live on in our hearts, our actions and we carry your gifts with us always. I can recall a few moments where you have taught me how to articulate my thoughts in a manner that is both professional and intelligent. Not just the way my words are spoken, but you’ve conveyed the importance of a good posture, eye contact, and speaking with confidence. It’s a lesson that is timeless, a lesson learned. 

I can also recall driving to church in your car. And as much as myself and cousins wanted to jam to the latest Stone Love dancehall session, it was only a look you gave the both of us that said - no. Without words, we knew what you meant. A simple expression that has taught me. There is a time and place for everything. A lesson I’ve understood and received to this day. 

You have transitioned from this earthly realm to be with our maker. Godspeed my aunt. Always remembered and always loved. 


Rest in Peace Lorna, your journey here on earth is ended. You will be greatly missed. Heaven has gained an Angel!!!

Lorna was a,caring Kind ambitious person  she loves the Lord with  a passion.  I can always remember that when she   came to  Canada to visit sister Tensie she always drop by my house to visit me .she was very pleasant person  never a dull moment she had a million dollar smile .The lord had seen her pain and ease her from the pain. In John 14 verse 1&2  says let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid ye believe in God believe also in me in my Father's house there are many mansions I will go and prepare a place for you if I go I will come again and receive you unto myself that where I am there ye will be also "This is a promise to all of us that if we do 



Lorna was authentic what you see Is what you get. She was loved By all and will be missed. Rest in peace My dear cousin.

Words can not express how deeply we miss you Lorna. Take your rest and to absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We love you!🙏🏿

My favorite memory of Aunty Lorna was seeing her dress up every Saturday to go get her hair done. She always wore hot clothes and and she never looked her age! She always complimented me on my clothes and my shape!

She would call me from time to time to ask me where her son was. And when I say from time to time, I mean every other day! She would ask what he was up to for many years. I was his best friend and she felt I knew everything about him. A couple of months ago she was having a good day because she was able to move around a little even though she was ill. I came to pick up Kwameel and she came out quickly before him, and said “Thank you. I ask you a million times about my son and you never once answered me. You always changed the subject or shrugged it off. You are a loyal friend. You never left him. Bench and Batty. You two have a beautiful friendship.” 

He walked outside to the passenger door and she asked her famous question “Soooo..where are you guys off to today?”…we laugh at it all the time. It was funny. But now when I pull up to the driveway…there’s no one there to ask me 21 questions. I’ll miss you Aunty Lorna. I know you’re wearing your best clothes and getting your hair done regularly. Love you!

One of Lorna’s parts was the role of my friend. From the first day we met, it seemed as if we had known each other for years. Her love for God and people endeared her to me. As an active member of our life group, I could always depend on Lorna to provide and share, not only a word, but a sumptuous dish, served with style and class. Over the years, Lorna has been my advisor, consultant, and counselor. She was the sister I needed close to me. We did our daily walk, gardening, cooking, shopping, did I say shopping. Yes, shopping. We prayed and worshipped together. Some of my most memorable times with my friend was during her illness. I visited her almost every day. We sang and prayed together.  There is this void that is left in my heart, but I know that we will be reunited.  Sleep on my friend, I’ll see you in the plan.

It’s still so surreal that Lorna is no longer here.  The last time I saw her was shortly before the pandemic and she looked well and healthy and two years later she is gone.  It’s extremely sad and this shows the fragility of life. Death is indeed an enemy.  Lorna had a beautiful personality,  you felt comfortable around her.  She will be greatly missed.

I believe that God place people in our lives for a special purpose. 
I met Ms. Higgins who I affectionately called Ms. Higg. at Rock Island Elementary School in 2009. Her influence at school was of a positive nature. Whenever I stopped by her  classroom after a difficult day,  she would always ask "wha happen putuss?"
Ms. Higg was  willing to listen, encourage and give advice on how to work through the challenges of each day.  As a result, our friendship grew and  blossom into a beautiful rose.
Ms. Higg  was  not  only a good friend but  she was like a big sister  to me. I resided with her for  approximately  eighteen   months.  During that time she was caring, compassionate, respectful, loving and kind.
Ms. Higg was a blessing in my life and will be greatly missed.

Aunt Lorna was caring, considerate and kind.  I can remember when she reached out to me one of her deceased sister's child; her niece and found me while I was studying at UHWI nursing school.  At that time she ensured that my needs were supplied without me imploring.  She stood ready to assist in any way possible to ensure that I completed nursing. The times we spent together she displayed a loving, kind, warm and considerate spirit.

My favorite memory of Mrs. Higgins was her genuine and loving personality.  Her comforting gaze and smile offered hope and peace.  She had a way of making you feel you were her favorite.   

Even when Mrs. Higgins needed to correct me, it was done with such grace  that I thanked her for caring enough to share with me. 

 I will forever treasure the blessing she was to my daughter and I.

We met Lorna about 20 years ago through her husband, Horace. Every time we met, we were always greeted with her beautiful smile and welcoming phrase " my darlings " which to us showed how much she valued our friendship. She was always caring, considerate, empathetic and always wanted to know how she could help. Lorna made our lives richer and more meaningful. We will always cherish her memories,  She will be greatly missed.

It is with great sadness, that I am writing about dear Lorna. Lorna was an enchanting individual. She was instrumental in ensuring great success in her career. She was loved by her friends and others who came in contact with her. Lorna had an impeccable personality. She was intelligent, caring, honest, sincere, loyal, loving, and courageous. You are missed. We wonder why you were taking so soon, but it is ordered to man once to die and after death, the judgment. You are only gone on before. May God rest your soul in eternal bliss.

My favorite memories of my dearly beloved cousin Lorna dates back to my early childhood. I must have been only five or six years old when she decided to give my sister and I our first trip out of Jointwood St Elizabeth. I remember the Saturday when we were getting ready and looking every few minutes for the car to come around the corner.  How exciting we were.  I was  going to see the ocean for the first time. And when she came and got us is it great. We ended up spending about two weeks at her house in Savalanamar Westmoreland. I saw the ocean, I ate in a restaurant and was given a whole chicken to eat alone. I saw people dressed in strange costumes for a parade and so many other first a child today would take for granted. That trip set a preciden for the following years I would spend all or part of my summer holiday at Sister Lorna house. I would look forward to all these trips. She migrated to New York before I did so did not see her for a few years. When I finally migrate to New York to live with mother I was delighted again to see my cousin. She surely did not disappoint. I never forget the Saturday night I landed in NYC expecting to see my mother at the airport, but when I stepped outside there she was with open arms and a big smile my beloved cousin Lorna to receive me. Ten years later when she moved to Florida I followed her here. You never knew how much you missed someone until the are gone. Lorna and I had several conversations about the summers I spent at her house in Jamaica when I was a child. She knew I enjoyed my time with her, but I don't remember if I ever told her how important those memories were to me. God please I hope I did because the next time we meet is in heaven.

Lorna was a great neighbor and made me feel welcome right from the beginning. I’d lived here 3-4 years before I met Horace and I referred to him as her fake husband. It made us both laugh.  She will be missed. My condolences to her family and friends. 

As a Mother losing a child is more painful than words can express, my love for you is beyond this world. Your beauty on all levels surpassed you and those that entered your world has benefitted from your engagement.  I am so proud that you chose me as your Mother and whilst this is painful you are now resting in eternal peace.  I continue to love you unconditionally ❤ love Mom xxx

It's been hard to accept that my Big Sis has moved onto a higher place however a better place were peace reigns in the Kingdom of Heaven.  I'll miss your beautiful smile and telling you how much you look like Mum, your beautiful enery, kind heart and fun personality will be truly missed. There's so much wonderful things that l remember about my mom but the one thing that stood out most is how she treated people how she treated me with such affection love she would lecture my friends just like how she would lecture me she love her grandkids dearly mommy will be greatly missed but never well be forgotten I love you so much💚💛❤️🙏🏿🙏🏿🕊️🕊️

There's alot of wonderful memories of my mom I can think of but the one that stands out is how she used to lecture my friends just like how she did to me and I loved that about her, she cared for my friends and showed them that love 💕.. All my real friends know about Miss Lorna.. And it comes to her grandkids she loved them dearly,.. I'm going to miss her sooooo much, but she well be never forgotten.. ❤️💛💚🙏🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿🕊️🕊️🕊️

Mama Higgins was my constant, mentor, confidant, and voice of reason...my girl! She was sent from God and hand-picked as Joel's Godmother because of her genuine qualities. The many lessons taught will never be forgotten. The memories of the delicious meals, our long conversations, encouragement, and jokes will never be erased.  She was a blessing, a phenomenal woman, and a shining light; she has left her mark on my life.  Ms. Higgins has impacted the lives of many and her influence will live on.  To the family, her work here is done; thanks for sharing her with the world. She is resting in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father and will never be forgotten.

Lorna you were so humble, kind and jovial.
You cared and loved your family members wholeheartedly as this was expressed oftentimes by your sister Beverley. I became acquainted with Lorna through Beverley, who is a very dear friend of mine.
I am so happy I had the pleasure of having lunch with you in July. You were indeed a fighter.
We will miss you dearly, but you are now in a better place. Sleep sweetly in your Saviour’s arms.

May God continue to favor you all with strength, comfort and peace during this time of loss.

Lorna, a good neighbour who became my dear friend.  Loving, kind and gracious. Your ready smile was so reassuring and I looked forward to your visits when we would share our thoughts on the past as well as the future. Alas!  the future is here and you are gone.  But the Everlasting Arms of our Saviour is a good place to be so rest in peace.  Your memory will always be treasured .

My dear sister Lorna, I cannot imagine a full day would pass and we are not on the telephone talking. Each time you visited me in Canada we always go to the fabric place getting materials then headed to my dress maker.

What can I say where do I begin. Lorna and I met in 1973 in college. This meeting merged two  souls who became sisters/friends for life. To know Lorna was to love Lorna.A true friend we often looked out for each other. Trusted friends for ever. Even when we were apart we were together.
Little did I know that Lorna's life would be literally cut short. Lorna was an excellent teacher who focused on her career to the extent that after she retired from the Florida school system. Invited me to go with her to China or Dubai to continue teaching. No my friend not this one. As much as I valued her idea our days as international educators were over.  
So Lorna kept going between Florida and Kingston perhaps to enjoy her family and her retirement.How would we know that this would be short lived. The next message that came to me from Lorna on an infamous day , announced the culprit that took her life.If only we could turn back the hands of time. If only death was not so ravishing. If only we could postpone our faith,  my sister would still be here.
Finally, death is not final, yes ,Lorna was aware of death as we often spoke about death and giving our lives to God. So guys stay in the arms of Jesus knowing that it is her time to rest. Rest in peace my friend You were strong and powerful.

I remember being introduced to me by Your Husband and  Great Neighbor Horace about Two Years ago. You were so happy, pleasant and full of energy doing your morning exercise. RIP Lorna.  Fr. Lindel Davis.

To my dear Lorna, I can’t imagine moving to Florida and not meeting you. Lorna was the best walking buddy who was able to light up any room she walked in. I will miss her dearly, until we meet again.  

I remember Life Group meetings  that Lorna hosted at her beautiful and meticulous  home in Tamarac.  She had an infectious laugh, an endearing personality and a kind and generous heart.  Anyone who visited her home would be entertained with a delightful Jamaican fare  as she was an excellent cook and host.
We will miss her dearly.
Condolences to her Husband other members of the family  and  friends.
May her soul rest in peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Sending are prayers and good memories. such a sweet a kind person you are.true family monarch can’t believe your gone but never forgotten.

Lorna has been my friend for over 40 years, we lived in the same house in Jamaica. She was a true friend.  We shared many good times over the years and were there for each other during difficult times. We both belong to the Westmoreland Jaycees and were very active in the chapter.
She was kind and generous, always ready to give a helping hand in whatever way she could. Lorna had a very hearty laugh and was not one to get angry, (I don't remember her getting angry in my presence). She was a child of God and lived the life that counts.
I still have difficulty with the fact that my friend is gone. I miss her terrible. "We cannot Lord your purpose see but all is well that's done by thee"
