Joe and Mary were an inseparable couple, together 24/7 and sharing 25 years in marriage. Joe adored his wife and Mary brought a smile to his face. Joe and Mary enjoyed their summers in Michigan and their winters in Florida. Joe loved Mary’s cooking and especially her opera singing. A skilled Orthopedic Surgeon, Mary completed her internship and residency in New Orleans at the Ochsner Clinic, and her fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery at the Hospital for the Sick Children in Toronto. Mary began her practice in Pediatric Orthopedics at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore until 1991. Mary returned back to Bad Axe and provided orthopedic care at both Huron Memorial Hospital and the Scheurer Hospital until her retirement.
Joe was a master at Gimlets. Joe traveled around the country to boat shows, auto shows and Indy Car Races, designing displays for the shows. He was a very talented man. Both Joey and Mary were avid sailors and Mary took part in a several Port Huron to Macinaw races, as well as several off shore ocean sailing races.
Joe and Mary are survived by Joeys’ daughter, Laura (Malewicz) Tocco; his granddaughter, Victoria Tocco; Joey’s siblings, John and Mary Malewicz, Rosana and Russell Achatz and Diana and Richard Irons; Mary’s siblings, Charles and Judith Morden and Dr. Robert and Dawn Morden; Their canine companion Gunner, a scottie. Many nieces, nephews. Joseph was predeceased by his brother Richard Malewicz.
The family will honor and celebrate Joseph and Mary’s life at a later date and time. Donations in their memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
