Tim was born October 19, 1938 in Andalusia, AL to J.C. and Mary (Glover) Dawkins. His family moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1946 and he graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1957 where he was voted “Friendliest”. He then attended Florida State University where he played baseball and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. Following FSU, he continued to play baseball with the US Coast Guard and was honorably discharged.
Tim spent his career as an independent insurance agent and served on the state Workmans’ compensation insurance advisory board and the Fort Lauderdale insurance board. He was an avid golfer and served several terms as president of the Fort Lauderdale Country Club. As a member of the FSU Varsity Club and Seminole Boosters, Tim also enjoyed watching and supporting his FSU Seminoles. Tim was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale and served in many leadership positions.
Tim is survived by Jacqueline, his wife of 55 years, daughters Jennifer (Richard) Ordonez of Davie, FL, and Stephanie (Bob Palmer) Dawkins of Geneva, IL; grandchildren Alex (Shannon) Ordonez of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Amanda (Jason) Urbanek of Apopka, FL; Sisters Diana Champlin of Dothan, AL and Debbie Wince of Neosho, MO; and mother-in law Oleta V. Krause of Fort Lauderdale, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Fort Lauderdale or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Southeast Florida Chapter, 3323 W Commercial Boulevard, Ste 260, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 401 SE 15 Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL with reception immediately following.
