Jean W. Shiskin passed away on October 10, 2024 in Pembroke Pines, Florida. She was the daughter of Ed and Edna Wildermuth. Jean was born on October 28, 1936 in Erie, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her husband Clifton Merchant, sister June Averill, daughter Laura Delvalle, son-in-law Ed Delvalle, granddaughter Amanda Delvalle and grandson Matthew Delvalle.
Jean graduated from Mansfield State Teacher’s College in 1958 with a degree in Music Education. She was a music teacher for 32 years, and also enjoyed directing and singing in the church choir. In the 1980’s, she enjoyed ballroom dancing with her first husband, Ted Shiskin. Upon retiring in 1991, she joined Sweet Adelines and was also in a quartet called “Something Special”.
After Jean's first husband, Ted Shiskin, passed away in 2018 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis, she re-connected with her high school sweetheart, Clifton Merchant, and they wed on November 24, 2022.
There will be a memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 11 am. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue, her favorite color, to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
