on July 12, 2020. He was the son of the late Hilton and Madge Landry and brother of Loretta L.
VanWambeck (deceased) and brother of Vicki J. Triolo. He grew up in the Miami area and
attended Coral Gables High School where he was a varsity letterman in football, basketball and
track. He enjoyed his tenure in high school with the many friends he made including his
membership in the Ching Tang Social Fraternity, a close knit group of prominent young men
who have maintained a close relationship throughout their adult lives.
John received football scholarships to several major universities and chose the one from
University of Georgia where he was a member of the 1960 Orange Bowl team, received his
Varsity letters in 1960 and 1961 as an offensive and defensive end, and was a member of the
Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After graduation from the University of Georgia, he enlisted in
the Army Reserves where he became a Company Commander and only the 3rd soldier at Fort
Jackson Army Base to ever achieve a perfect score on the Army’s Physical Training Test.
After reserve training, he returned to Coral Gables where he joined his father's real estate
firm specializing in property management. He married Sandra Carol (Sansi) Smalley
(deceased), a former Junior Orange Bowl Queen, and the daughter of H. Earl and Eleanor
Smalley. John and Sansi spent 30 wonderful years together raising their beautiful children, John
III “Trey”, Bonnie Jean, Geoffrey and Sansi’s brother Michael Smalley who became a valued
member of their family.
His business endeavors include President and CEO of major public traded and private
companies specializing in commercial property management, investment and brokerage
coupled with his love of the arts, which included his many community endeavors as past
President and Board member of cultural arts organizations, feeling strongly that “brick and
mortar” alone does not build successful communities.
After his beloved Sansi passed away, he divested his property management business
interests and partnered with his good friend, Capt. Bruce Blomgren, and his firm Brandy Marine
International, as the head of that firm's marina management division. During this time John met
his beloved Harriet H. (Ulrich) Brewer of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, a caring and loving Christian,
and a prominent Realtor in the Greater Fort Lauderdale area.
John and Harriet were married on the shore of her family’s summer home on Long Island
Sound in Clinton, CT. In 2001 where they spent many summers with family and friends. They
resided in Ft. Lauderdale until moving permanently to Sarasota, Florida in 2011. He embraced
her three wonderful children, Richard, Christopher (Cydney), and James as if they were his own.
They have greatly enjoyed their years together and their “blended” family of seven special
children and 15 wonderful grandchildren.
John remained active in Brandy Marine and enjoyed his work with the firm, its clients and all
of the corporate and staff members and employees over the years. But most of all, his love of,
and time spent with his wonderful wife Harriet and their blended family, friends, his high school
fraternity brothers, as well as his extracurricular activities over the years reading the Bible,
non-fiction novels, especially War Stories and Presidential biographies, playing tennis and golf,
Harley rides and fishing and hunting.
John is survived by his wife, Harriet; his sister Vicki L. Triolo of Ft. Myers, FL; sons, H. John
