Frances Elizabeth Black was born May 21, 1924 to Susan McKenzie Black and Percival Black in Springfield, Jamaica, British West Indies. After graduating from high school, she came to the United States, settling first in Maine before moving to New York to work as an X-Ray Technician and eventually dedicating her life to building and caring for her family.
Frances met her late-husband Ediston Charles Nation during her time in New York where they were married in 1947. They went on to have two children, Doreen and Daniel, father to her two grandchildren Kristi and Daniel II.
After retiring, Frances and Ediston moved down to Florida in 1980. Frances was an avid seamstress and crocheter, creating countless priceless dresses and other clothing, blankets and even bedspreads with her talents.
Frances was a devout Christian, becoming very involved in the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection in Miramar, FL.
Frances was predeceased by her eight siblings: Mayzel, Harold, Edra, Vivian, Ivan, Donald, Jean and Olive. She was the last living member of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Doreen Nation and her partner David Gold, son Daniel Nation and his wife Emarie Nation, grandchildren Kristi Nation and Daniel Nation II, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection on Thursday February 17 at 11 A.M. She will be buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens South in Davie, FL, next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cathedral Church of the Resurrection in Miramar, FL, Feed My Starving Children or the American Kidney Fund.
